Jewish Cherasco /Synagogue

Schoolroom

In front of the prayer hall, there is a small Talmud Torah room, where the children received instruction in Hebrew and preparation for a Jewish life, consisting of the observance of the 613 commandments ordained in the Torah.

At a time when reading was still largely a luxury, all Jewish males, rich or poor, learned to read and write, so as to be able to pray and to study the Torah.

Fitted with wooden desks, the room has a low wooden ceiling and a mezuzah in the doorway. Faint Hebrew lettering has been found on one of the walls.
