Cultural and Scientific Activities
The Foundation's objective is to create contacts between the Piedmont, characterized by a tradition of economic and industrial dynamism, and the State of Israel, which has always been at the forefront of scientific and technological research. The De Benedetti Foundation strongly believes in the potential benefits of such cultural and scientific exchanges. For this reason, the Foundation promotes, also personally through its founders and administrators, contacts between public and private Piedmontese and Israeli institutions, as well as technology transfer projects between high-tech enterprises in Piedmont and in Israel.
Weizmann Institute of Science
Between 2007 and 2013, the Foundation initiated and supported the Torino-Weizmann Exchange Program, a joint program of collaborations between researchers at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel and colleagues at the University of Turin. The Foundation funded six grants of 25,000 Euro each, which enabled scientists from Turin to spend time in Weizmann Institute laboratories.
In 2003, the Foundation initiated a project (brainchild of Maurizio Mancini, Elisabetta Salza and Benedetto De Benedetti) that was revolutionary for the city of Turin: creation of the first center of nuclear medicine using PET-CT (Positron Emission Tomography-Computed Tomography) technology.
Thus was born IRMET, which today represents one of the largest centers of nuclear medicine in Europe as well as a Piedmontese center of excellence at the European level.
IRMET 's structure is based on recommendations formulated by the World Health Organization, the European Union, and other relevant bodies.
In July 2005, IRMET was certified by DNV Det Norske Veritas as a provider of nuclear medicine diagnostic services: PET CT for UNI EN 9001:2000 (Quality Systems), UNI EN 14001:2004 (Environmental Management system) and UNI EN 18001:1999 (Health and Occupational Safety Management System). IRMET maintains annual updates of its quality control system.
