The City of Cherasco

The City of Cherasco is a positive example of how, through a combined effort between the public administration and the private sector it is possible to achieve significant results in the promotion of local tourism.

 

Thanks to a series of well planned and publicized events, Cherasco has become known, not only for its exceptional historical and artistic buildings, but for the array of high quality events and entertainment it offers as well.

 

Each year Cherasco hosts specialized fairs and markets:  antiques, collections and models, antique books maps and documents, antique toys and models, biological agricultural products, ceramics and glass art works, and a market for antique furniture.

 

Numerous art exhibitions, of artists such as Tabusso and Morandi, are shown at Palazzo Salmatoris or in the church of San Gregorio and Sant'Alfredo.

 

The city offers a series of musical concerts “Old Cherasco”, organized by the Musical association Carlo and Anna Ferrua as well.

 

The City of Cherasco sponsors the literary prize “Cherasco History” each year.

The award honors the works of Italian and foreign authors who have covered historic themes with scientific rigor presented through their books with the use of particularly captivating language.

 

Parallel to this literary award is prize for a university thesis dedicated to the history of Cherasco, named for the Count Alessandro Paoletti del Melle.

 

Cherasco is also the seat of The International Institute of  Snail Farming, which for many years has organized gastronomic events tied to snails.

 

The famous “Baci di Cherasco” made of chocolate and hazzlenuts which together with wines from the Langhe are the pride of the shops and restaurants in the historic city.

 

Cherasco is today and active center with 7.000 residents, dispersed in several municipalities, spread over the over 82 square kilometers of its territory.

 

The most important of these are Roreto, Bricco, Veglia, Cappellazzo, San Bartolomeo, Meane, San Giovanni.

 

The last 20 years Cherasco has witnessed significant change; there has been a gradual transformation from an agricultural economy to an industrial, commercial and economic poll of high quantitative and qualitative level.

 

The traditional cultivation of fodder  and vegetables, together with intensive animal husbandry, have been positively integrated with the numerous emerging industrial and commercial  activities, creating a positive overall growth in the extended territory.
