Reenactment of the Armistice of Cherasco

Bonaparte was only 26 years old when he took command of the Italian Army. Leaving from Nice on April 2nd, in an unrelenting advance along the coast he led a lighting series of battles and victories that culminated with the Armistice of Cherasco on the 28th of April 1796 and the famous declaration “People of Italy, the French Army has come to break your chains…..”

 

The Armistice which then became the Peace of Paris on the following 15th of May, concluded the first phase of the Italian Campaign.

 

It was the prelude to the Napoleonic myth, and sanctioned the French occupation of the southwestern territory of Piedmont, from the Valley of Stura to Alessandria , and the fortifications of Cuneo, Ceva and Tortona. It brought the abandonment of the Austrian alliance and the secession of Nice and the Savoia to France.

 

This event is intended to recall the Armistice of Cherasco on the 28th April 1796 between Napoleon and Victor Amedeo III Groups form all over Europe , with arms and uniforms faithful to the historical period, will reenacted the battles between the French, Austrian and Piedmontese.

 

Many cultural events evocative of this historical period are also planned.
